My final english assignment of high school

I've learned that technology is more important to our race than I'd originally thought. Everything we do every day involves some sort of technology. Whether it be taking a shower or doing research online, it all involves technology. With this understanding, I know now that using technology to my advantage will further widen my options as a young adult.

Technology is expanding at an alarming rate. As a student during this explosion of technology, it is almost a responsibility to know how to use and utilize the internet and its contents to my advantage. In my future, computers could exceed the efficiency of the human brain, or even the human race. Learning to use these technologies to my advantage could give me the initiative to change the world in the future.

Digital literacy was key for me even finishing high school. If I hadn't joined Jeffconet academy, I would not be graduating today, if at all. I was already quick and witty with a computer and its workings, so Jeffconet gave me an advantage over traditional learning facilities. I'd have to spend another year and a half in a public school, where I'd been struggling to learn at all due to an extremely abstract thought process, and an unmotivated soul. One large thing I learned to come to terms with in jeffconet is my speaking. I used to not state my opinion, and I would jumble my sentences and be embarrassed. But Jeffconet gave me not the skill, but the confidence to speak my opinions proudly and efficiently, while avoiding being boisterous.

I think that taking this online course prepared me for what the future has to offer. Technology is advancing at an alarming rate, and with the experience I've gained from Jeffconet, I'll be able to jump right into whatever the situation might be. (Online college classes, online debates, online... anything.) I think that learning to use the internet and other technology as a tool for success, along with the deeper understanding of the education within will get me ahead. My future is still not completely clear, but I know that when the time comes, I will be prepared for what the world has to offer me.

With that said, I feel comfortable to be graduating high school at this time. It is going to be an amazing learning experience. If you think about it, this generation are the pioneers of the use of technology. If we keep on top of it, we could become veterans in time. The internet has become much more than just a place for me to go when I become languid. It has become a useful tool that I can do just about anything with. Every time I use the internet, I learn something new. And without it, I would not be where I am right now.

Mirrors

rorriMirror

Lance Kell

Duchess Eliza DuPont and her Fiance, Franco Mizra are settling into their new town. Franco comes across a mirror at an antique shop, and decides to splurge a bit. The teller rings up the mirror: $4500 even. They say their goodbyes and Franco heads home to his lover. The mirror is strapped in the back seat of his Benz, parallel to the rear-view. On the drive home, He looks into the rear view mirror, and notices that the mirror has a thick, black, almost sludge of smoke emanating from it. At a red light, he looks into the mirror. The smoke is gone.

Franco arrives at his new abode: An early 1900’s mansion of a living facility which had been recently remodeled. The mirror is light in weight, so he carries it up the red velvet staircase, and into the living room, where Eliza is combing through a sea of boxes, which seem to be crying to be unpacked. “This mirror caught my eye at a local antique shop, I thought you might fancy it,” said Franco. “Oh it is most excellent!” Exclaimed Eliza, “It’s beautiful, but doesn’t it seem a bit strange to you?” “I didn’t notice anything… Wait! On the way home, I was checking in the rear view mirror, and I saw a black sludge-looking substance wandering around the base of the mirror, almost like smoke!” said Franco. They milled around the mirror, inspecting its entirety, and deemed it a mere illusion. Off to dinner they went.

While this lovely couple was off at an upscale Greek restaurant, the mirror’s poison filled the house. Its black smoke filled all of the rooms, and even the beds that they slept on. Its evil worked magic in solitude, and no one had witnessed this happening. It was like it had never occurred at all. The couple returns, noticing a strange presence in their house. Franco retrieved a nearby bat, and began searching for intruders. “Show yourself!” he yelled. But nothing responded, when suddenly there was a faint whispering. Franco, beginning to tense up, called out again. “SHOW YOURSELF!” The whispering became audible; uttering the words “You set me free.” The whispers came from behind him, so Franco swung, only to smash a vase and knock over a wall fixture to the right of him. He ran to Eliza, and asked her if he’d heard the whispering, and she only replied with a blank look and a shake of her head. “It’s late,” she said. “Lets retire.” “Yes, that’d probably be a good idea. Its been a long day,” replied Franco.

The couple slept soundly; almost too soundly. The mirror lies in a corner of the living room, mocking their fright in the previous evening. But the couple still did not know of its cruel intentions. Eliza awakes, and walks through the living room to the kitchen. A bright flash blinds her, coming from the right of her. The mirror is now facing her, reflecting the light of the morning sun into her eyes. “Leave it to Franco to put things in the worst possible places…” she muttered. She stumbled towards the mirror, and put it on the opposite corner of the room, facing away from the sun. Walking back to the kitchen, she begins to hear the whispering that Franco had mentioned. “Why did you relocate me? I was enjoying the sunrise, you know,” said the mirror. Eliza, who is completely in awe by this time, calls out for Franco. She runs upstairs and wakes him and tells him about the mirror. He throws himself out of bed, puts on his jeans, and comes to bear witness.

In this short time, the mirror had completely consumed the lower level of their house. All of the walls were reflections: they had all become the mirror! The couple walks cautiously through the house, inspecting themselves in the mirrors. “So strange…” they said in unison. And at the hilt of their words, The mirrors collapse in, on all four walls of the living room, and consume the couple. The house returns to normal, but the mirror now has the image of the two people, well in health, in the prime of their lives, immaculate.

Over time, worried relatives leave messages on their answering machines, and bill collectors knock and leave notices, with no response. The relatives inform the authorities, and a search begins. But little is known to the public about what happened to this ideal couple. Their names became conspiracies, their bodies art. Their images had been consumed deep within the mirror, and it still lies ominously to the right of the kitchen, facing east. The house is condemned, and all of the items left there. The house was forgotten. Fifty years later, the house is completely consumed by vines and brush. A young, wealthy couple comes across it on a visit from England. “I bet that house could be beautiful with a little work,” says the woman. “I’ve got a friend back home that would be more than happy to come and help us work on it. We could make it our new home!” said the man.

State of the Union Address

President Barrack Obama recently spoke at the State of the Union Address. He spoke of a time of change and reform, in hopes of turning our economy around. It may not be apparent, but he is speaking mostly to the youth. The youth is the future of America, and our participation in helping our community and economy get through this time of struggle. Colleges will become more affordable, homes will be more efficient, and strives toward renewable fuels will be made.

"Dropping out of high school is not an option." Obama said this quote, and I believe we should live to that statement. We really DO need every American's talents and potentials. Not only within our individual communities, but in the world itself. One individual can possess the power to change a city, a nation, or even the world. With higher education, these individuals have a higher chance of helping themselves and others, including this nation. Why waste your talents and potentials? Any person can do anything they put their mind to. Application and a strong will to succeed are two things that act as the fuel for talent. Don't waste yourself by dropping out and working for minimum wage for the rest of your life. You CAN get through it.

One thing I didn't really relate with is Obama's idea for new energy. He is planning to lay down miles of power lines, bringing more power to cities, and making homes more efficient, so that they use less electricity. The ideas sound great in conjunction, but I think recycling could help that as well. If every American participated in recycling avidly, and used less destructive materials on a daily basis, we could use LESS energy recycling them rather than incinerating them or letting them sit around in a landfill. Clearing out landfills to recycle the trash would help clean up the air, earth and make things even more liveable, as well as reducing the amount of energy we use.

Obama has his heart in the right place. His sympathy towards the school teacher who wrote to congress about the poor conditions of the building shows that he is a man of pure heart. The woman's class was run down, the paint peeling, roofs leaking, and a train would go by 4 to 6 times a day, interrupting lessons. She wrote "We are just students trying to become teachers, lawyers, medical practicioners, and congressmen like yourself." Obama's recognition of this plea and giving funding to her class means that he really does care about the country and its inhabitants. Such acts of kindness are things I have yet to see by an American president without being a lie through the teeth.

Some people call him an "idealist," But I see the potential within that man to change the world forever, or at least our country. He speaks kindly and gently, and speaks of hope and love between ourselves and others. His high hopes and equally high expectations may be just what this country needs to get itself out of the hole that's been dug. We are all human beings, and you could be an average joe or an all star hocky player. No matter the position, any person can change the world, and I believe that is the moral behind his opinions and thoughts. He's trying to motivate us to find the will inside of ourselves to get up and change the world for the better!

Graduation.

I would like to start off by saying that it wasn't easy. Others may disagree, but my high school experience was particularly difficult. The only reason being, I made it that way. I always made it so difficult for myself by telling myself that I couldn't make it through. But guess what? Cheers to the people that told me I couldn't.

My four years in high school were extravagant, yet languid. Spending the time that I did testing and studying, and eventually not doing either, made me feel like I was just jumping through hoops. But I learned almost near the end that you have to learn to jump through hoops before they are set ablaze, risking a lot of things. I met and conversed with many people who I have come to know and love. I hit a few major obstacles in my junior year, but Jeffconet helped me rise above them, and live a healthier, happier life.

I give my gratitude to every single person I've met along the way. Teachers I love, teachers who I disliked, and students alike. People who dared to cross my path in a negative fashion were not ignored, but were observed with no bias. I realized that these people and problems are teachers themselves. Life lessons and moral values that stuck out to me after a while came from dealing with the pain, the bliss, and everything in between.

The only reasons that I'm here is because of Jeffconet and their wonderful teachers and staff, and my own desire. I lived with people always telling me I can't. Well hey, I AM. And nothing can stop me. I'm on a one way street to achieving my dreams. Any nay-sayers in your life can only be observed and learned from. Never let anyone have to power to get you down. The only reason you would be discouraged is because you let them. Life is about being happy and living your dreams. Who are they to say nay?

Introduction

My enrollment in Senior's English, semester B is a transition stage, acting as a hoop to jump through to get to college. I enjoy writing and reading a lot, but when I'm not doing it out of free will, the product isn't always as great. In this course, I expect myself to get better at creating a more natural writing style in a school setting.

I want to learn to organize my poetry more effectively, although my organized chaos is interesting to some readers. I'm not sure if this course entails any poetry units in terms of composition, but I'm going to try to incorporate it into assignments as best I can without being excessive.

I believe my advantages in English are given by my naturally poetic lifestyle.
I write poetry out of things I want, see, hear, feel, don't feel, etc. I feel that it gives me a way to creatively express myself without ranting on and on. I shall post up a couple of works in progress.

"A book of enlightenment ( or endarkenment)"

City:

Our poor mother lays in anguish

Lamenting the thought of what her children have done

Her body sick, twisted, deprived of the love they promised they’d give

Silently she closes her eyes and lets her children run free

Unspoken wishes speak tales of what could’ve been

Actuality or the lack thereof denies her every wish

Our mother earth sleeps restlessly beneath our cities

Love:

Fatal attraction leads us all at some point

Why? God, who knows

And who knows God?

Is there a special person set aside for me?

Or any of us, for that matter?

Only primal instincts can tell us when we’ve found

That one we are meant to be with.

(WITH)

The will and ability to feel what’s going on inside

Is the only key that fits the door.

(The door has SIX locks…)

Lets hope the key fits all six.

Love is only a natural being

It is a LIVING

BREATHING

WALKING entity.

When one finds this love, he damn well better cherish it

God knows I should…

I don't see myself really having any weaknesses in English, aside from motivational skills that need tuning. I feel that I get caught up too much in my life to write something when told to. In my spare time, to keep myself from going completely insane, I write poetry or just write out my thoughts and concerns, or create a musical of tones and sounds with various instruments with unspoken words behind them, which tell a story all their own. Each note has a different word and context.
